EDUCATIONAL HIKES
WHAT WILL WE SEE - WHAT WILL WE HEAR - WHAT WILL WE KNOW - HOW WILL WE REVEL?

All the hikers and the curious ones are invited to participate in the educational hikes where they can learn about the history of the area and the nature
thriving in it. We will listen to enticing stories about the nature and visit objects of local cultural heritage.
FOREST BATHING
On Thursday at 19:00, an environmentalist and a practitioner of forest adventures Austė Juozapaitytė (Gyvo žalio) will invite us to the Forest Bathing.
Forest Bathing is a profound two hour experience in the woods using all five human senses. Consciously spending the time in the forest and
practicing specific sensory exercises we will strive to calm our minds and find a deeper connection to our surroundings.
We will gather by the Info Centre (Žinyčia).
NIGHT HIKE
On Thursday at 22:00 an ornithologist Gintarė Grašytė will take us on a night hike.
The night is a time of the darkness, fears and secrets, or so it seems to us – humans. However, the life in the nature does not stop when it gets
dark, but to observe and experience it one requires appropriate preparation. We will turn off our flashlights and phones and go on into the night!
We will gather by the Info Centre (Žinyčia).
A HIKE AROUND DŪBURYS AND ANTAZAVĖ
On Saturday at 9:30 we will start a hike with a historian Laimonas Abarius.
We will visit the ruins of the Bielūnai – Dūburys mill – the former place of the Špūrai forge, where the rebels of June had installed their headquarters.
We will pass by the ruins of the Marimontas watermill and visit the bunkers of the Šilas partisans that tell tales of the first major partisan
battle. We will invite you to walk around the Antazavė Manor, where Emilija Pliaterytė signed a statement and declared her decision to join the
rebels. The hike is 14km long and will take 5 hours.
Make sure to use repellents from mosquitoes and ticks.
We will gather by the Info Centre (Žinyčia).
NATURE DISCOVERY HIKE
On Saturday 14:00 we will go on a hike with a naturalist Andrejus Gaidamavičius.
During the hike we will learn to recognise plants, animals and mushrooms and learn a lot of fascinating things about the habitants of the meadows and forests. We will discuss the life of the trees and their relationship to us, humans. The hike is fit for participants of all ages and will last 3 hours.
We will gather by the Info Centre (Žinyčia).
EXPLORATION, GAME AND SCIENTIFIC DATA GATHERING WITH iNaturalist
On Sunday at 9:00 a botanist and a doctor of biomedical sciences Jurga Motiejūnaitė will introduce us to the iNaturalist app.
We will encourage you to download the iNaturalist app and to try it out in practice. We will explore the crooks and nooks of the island and learn how to
recognise the species of plants and animals using the app. Travelling throughout the island with Jurga Motiejūnaitė we will learn more about the natural
world surrounding us, and how this activity of ours helps to collect scientific data.
We will gather in the Tent of Knowledge.
MONIŠKIS FOREST TRIP
On Sunday at 17:00 the attendees of the festival are invited to visit the ancient forests and experience their beauty and significance. Scientists Dr. Reda Iršėnaitė, Dr. Ričardas Skorupskas, and Dr. Mindaugas Lapelė will show us around and tell us many interesting stories.
We encourage you to gather at the gates of the festival where we will share the coordinates of the meeting place in the forests which is about a 30
minute car ride away. During the trip we will travel to the protected forest of Moniškis that has been redeemed by the Sengirė Foundation. The
participants will have to travel by their own cars. In the most valuable northern part of the forest grow ancient deciduous trees, with some oak,
aspen, and ash trees counting 130 years of age. A part of the forest has been given the status of a key forest habitat and a habitat of European Union
importance. There are several wetlands, a beaver lodge, there is a lot of viable wood and traces of ungulate activity. Some bird species from the list of
extinct and endangered species of Lithuania have also been found living there.
It is a dense and moist deciduous forest with no pathways, so it is very important to have appropriate clothing and waterproof footwear, as
well as have protection from the rain and mosquito repellents. The hike will be rather slow and not physically challenging. The hike will last 2 hours.
The registration is mandatory and will take place at the Info Centre (Žinyčia).
