JUODARAGIS BATHINGHOUSE
WHAT WILL WE SEE - WHAT WILL WE HEAR - WHAT WILL WE KNOW - HOW WILL WE REVEL?
The heat of the fire in the Juodaragis Bathhouse!
Each year the Mėnuo Juodaragis programme grows in the number of bathhouses and participants. A visit to the festival bathhouse on the shore of Lake Dūburys is an unforgettable experience, made possible by the help of experienced bathhouse guides!
A bathhouse is where all four elements meet: fire, water, earth and air. Fire is the soul of the bathhouse, its essence. It heats the stones and breathes life into the bathhouse. The water, touched by the heat of the stones, creates steam that embraces the body, clears the mind and uplifts the soul. For our ancestors, the bath was a sacred place, a border between this world and the next, a place to meet visitors from the Otherworld. It is a place of cleansing, ceremony, purity, the beginning and the end of life. Our folk wisdom says that the more often you go to bathhouses, the less often you see the doctors.
The annual Juodaragis bathhouse will light a FIRE and share its warmth throughout the festival. A team of experienced bathhouse masters will welcome everyone who wishes to learn about Lithuanian bathhouse culture, its peculiarities and rituals.
This year, the number of MJR bathhouse professionals is larger than ever – the Association of Professional Bathhouse Professionals is coming with an additional bathhouse, offering special joint rituals and personal programmes by the best bathhouse masters: body scrubs, bathing, massages, wellness and beauty treatments with herbs, salt, honey, clay and more. During the day, there will be educational activities and enjoyment of the bathhouse tea brewed on the campfire.
