Kūlgrinda is a secret underwater path through the swamp. In ancient heathen traditions it is also considered a path of initiation, linking us to our ancestors and gods. The ritual folklore group Kūlgrinda was founded in 1990 by Jonas Jaunius Trinkūnas and Inija Trinkūnienė, the leaders of Romuva movement. They were among the very first to support the fledgling Mėnuo Juodaragis, and in 1999 Jonas Trinkūnas presented the first lecture at the festival. Since then, Kūlgrinda has participated in the MJR festival every year, traditionally opening and closing the event with the oldest ceremonial songs, revealing the uniquely distinctive spirit of Baltic religion. This year, illuminated by the glow of Morning Star, the group will perform thei chants in 4 appearances.
